My Favourite Trick to Perform (And Why)
If you’ve ever seen me perform live—whether at a wedding, corporate event, or just casually in a coffee shop—chances are you’ve seen me do my signature card routine. It’s my go-to piece, and for good reason.
This routine has been with me for years. It started out simple, but like most good things in magic, it’s evolved with time. I’ve added layers to it—sleights, subtleties, timing, and moments of misdirection. Every move has been refined over countless performances. And yet, it still feels fresh every time I do it.
Why I Love Performing It
1. It’s Visual and Effortless to Watch
One of the things I love most about this routine is how visual it is. Cards appear, vanish, change, and reappear—right in front of your eyes. The spectators don’t need to count cards or follow complicated instructions. They can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. That kind of clarity and impact goes a long way, especially in environments where people just want to have fun without thinking too hard.
2. It Fits Anywhere
The beauty of this routine is its versatility. I can perform it at high-end events with guests in suits and dresses, or I can bring it out casually while chatting with someone over coffee. It doesn’t rely on any big setups or props—just a deck of cards and a moment to share. That makes it perfect for a close-up setting, where the magic feels personal and real.
3. It Reflects My Style
Every magician eventually develops a style—something that feels authentic to who they are. For me, that style is relaxed and inviting. I don’t like putting people on the spot or making them feel like they’re being “tricked.” Instead, I want to make them feel comfortable and like they experincing something. This signature routine allows me to do just that. It creates mulitple moments of wonder without pressure, and it draws people in naturally.
4. It’s Been Earned
Another reason I’m so attached to this trick is the amount of work I’ve put into it. Behind the scenes are hours of study and practice. From mastering sleights to learning how to structure it for different types of audiences, I have channelled what I have learned from a variety of sources and implemented them all into this this one routine.
